Want Your Girl to Shoot With You?
The answer is not to go out and buy them their own guy, one they have never seen before, one they have never held, one they have never shot and one that you don't even know if they are comfortable with. This is one way to push them away from going to the range with you.
One problem with buying them something, is not knowing what to purchase. Some students have made the comment, "I bought this gun for my wife, and now she won't even pick up another gun." Please don't make this same mistake. Think about it. What do you do when you look for a gun? You hold it, see how it fits in your hand, how you like the sights, if you like the feel of the trigger, etc. You take all of these things in account when deciding, besides the fact of overall size, caliber and if it you are looking for a gun to carry gun or for target practice. Shouldn't your wife or girlfriend get the chance to go over all of these deciding factors too?
Another good idea is to let her take a class first to go learn the basics first. Even walking into a big store filled will all the different types and models can be overwhelming when you have no idea what any of them are. Some women find it intimidating when a store filled with men are staring at them and many are too eager to give them bad information on what type of firearm they should purchase, but in all reality, they could use some training themselves. In some cases they end up leaving the store more confused because of other customers "trying to help them", or a saleman trying to show them too many options.
Our ultimate goal at GYB is to have all familys, especially husband and wifes shooting together, because your best defense to protect one another is when both of your are working together, which means both partners need to know how to sefetly operate a firearm. If there is anything we can do to help you acheive that goal in your household, please contact us, we would love to help.
